| Brushtail Possum Trichosurus vulpecula
|
![]() |
These are among the most adaptable
of native mammals, often making home in roofs and chimneys. In
open forests they prefer tall old trees that provide holes in
which to live. In the south west the brushtails are generally
silver-grey. They are nocturnal and can often be seen around
homes, up trees or on pergolas. Spotlighting in the forests after
dark usually turns up possums. They carry their young in a pouch
and live mainly on leaves. The females can weigh up to 1.3kg
while males grow to 1.6kg. |
